Pre-Surgical Rehab
in Peachtree City, GA
Go Into Surgery Stronger. Come Out Faster.
What you do in the weeks before surgery is as important as what you do after. Prehab at ProHealth is how you make recovery shorter, easier, and more complete.

What Is Pre-Surgical Rehab (Prehab)?
Pre-surgical rehab, also called prehab, is structured physical therapy in the weeks leading up to a planned surgery. The goal is to optimize your strength, mobility, and movement patterns before the procedure so your recovery starts from a better baseline.
Prehab applies to most orthopedic surgeries: total joint replacement, ACL reconstruction, rotator cuff repair, spine surgery, and meniscus repair are among the most common. ProHealth accepts most major insurance plans for prehab, billed the same way as your physical therapy.
Why Prehab Matters
Most patients begin with physical therapy and continue into our clinically supervised Pilates studio as they get stronger. Your care stays connected, your clinician understands your history, and progress keeps building.
Stronger muscles around the surgical site means less compensation during recovery
Better baseline mobility means less stiffness to fight through post-op
Learning the movements you'll need early in recovery means you're not starting from zero when you're also managing pain and medication
Mental preparation matters too. Patients who arrive at surgery with a plan in their recovery tend to feel more confident going in
The Prehab Process
Your first session is a 60-minute evaluation with a licensed physical therapist. Here's the flow:
Movement assessment, strength testing, and a review of your surgical plan with your surgeon. Your ProHealth clinician coordinates directly with your referring physician throughout the process.
Specific strengthening for the muscles that will be weakened by surgery. Mobility work for the joints that will be protected during recovery. Practice of the movements you'll need early post-op so they feel familiar before the procedure.

Frequently Asked Questions
Four to six weeks is typical, though some patients see benefit with as few as two to three weeks of preparation. For major orthopedic surgeries like total joint replacement and ACL reconstruction, longer prehab windows generally produce better outcomes. Most patients meet with their clinician one to two times per week and follow a home program between visits. If you're within a month of surgery, call us. We'll tell you honestly what's still possible in the time you have.
The research consistently says yes. Patients who prehab recover faster, regain strength sooner, and report better outcomes at six and twelve months after surgery. Prehab also helps you learn the movements you'll need early in recovery, like getting in and out of bed, navigating stairs, and moving safely with post-op restrictions. That preparation means you're not starting from zero when you're also managing pain and medication after surgery.
Yes, in most cases. Pre-surgical rehabilitation is billed and covered as physical therapy under your insurance plan. We accept most major insurance plans and verify your specific benefits before your first visit, including your copay, deductible, and visit limits, so you know exactly what to expect. If your plan has restrictions that would affect prehab coverage, we'll walk you through your options.
Probably not. Even two weeks of focused preparation can help you learn post-op movement strategies, strengthen key muscles around the surgical site, and go into the procedure with more confidence. A short prehab window won't deliver the same benefit as a full six-week program, but it's almost always better than going in cold. Call us and we'll build what we can in the time available.
No. Prehab programs are built to prepare you, not exhaust you. Your clinician will progress your work strategically so you peak in the days leading up to surgery, not crash from overwork. We typically taper intensity in the final week so you arrive at the procedure strong, rested, and ready.
